I started the Cloud series in 2006 when I received boxes of my childhood toys, jewelry and trinkets and wanted to give meaning to this history through my sculpture. The process involved combining beads and other souvenirs of my present life with these fragments of my past, and connecting them in tangles of wire that hang, like mobiles, from a ceiling or branch, creating dangling objects that shimmer in the air like the stories we tell about ourselves. Which is more valuable, a gold chain given to me in high school or a piece of rusty wire found on a walk during a recent warm January day? In later pieces, the arrangements of feathers, fingernail clippings, insects and rings allow me to explore motherhood and marriage, art and the enchantments of an ever-changing life.
